In the Andalusian Spain Figaro moves among love stories, plots and betrayals. After seeing the initial version settled by Paisiello, Rossini decided to re-interpret completely this opera.
Barbiere di Siviglia is a comic drama in 2 acts. Music by Gioacchino Rossini and libretto by Cesare Stermini, based on the homonymous comedy of Beaumarchais.
This opera was initially performed by Giovanni Paisiello at the end of 18th century, but Rossini's first performance at the "Teatro Argentina" in Rom in February of the year 1816, was heavy hissed.
All polemics arose from Rossini's new interpretation that decided to change and modify the classic opera settled by Paisiello who, in that period, is still alive and really loved by the audience. However the failure of the première did not stop the extraordinary verve of Rossini's music so that it became shortly one of the best operas appreciated in Italy as well all over the world.
